More sites of death around the US

I wrote previously about how if you take train trips around the US, you end up stumbling upon mass shooting sites.

Well, somewhat related: I was again stumbling around the other day and I came across this Home Depot:

Home Depot

This is a Home Depot where ICE did some of their raids, and a man tried to escape by crossing the highway and was run over.

It was pretty sad to be there. You can see the highway in the back of the photo, the lights are from the passing cars:

The store itself was nice. There was a deaf man working in there, but he just held out his phone, and you talk into the phone, and it transcribed exactly what I was trying to say. He was very nice.

I was one of the little kids who got taught some sign language by Ms. Vickers-Shelley. I still remember some of it, so I did a simple sign “thank you” to the man, and he smiled.

Ms. Vickers-Shelley herself coined the phrase “Life is short, therefore I shall be a crusader, in the fight against ignorance and fear, beginning with myself.”

We recited that aloud, or in sign language, at the beginning of every single library session, so I still remember it.

None of us students knew that Ms. Vickers-Shelley was actually an esteemed person! We thought she was just the strict and slightly scary librarian over whom you could get no foolishness past.
