California prides itself on being the smartest place ever, so let’s see how clever they actually are.
It was Eid, and I was sending a bunch of Eid cards to people around the country. One of the cards was going elsewhere up the trashy West Coast. I deposited that particular card with about 3 others at the same exact post office, at the same exact time. And all envelopes were the same size.
For some reason, the Californians running the show at the post office decided that three of the cards were perfectly acceptable, but they held the fourth hostage: the one going up the West Coast “didn’t have enough postage.”
Somehow the other cards, which were the same size, were fine, but this one wasn’t.
So what do the Californians do? They think they’re being clever and send the card back to the return address, to teach me a lesson. But, because I like to imagine that I don’t live in this garbage dump, I had written my old East Coast address as the return. So whereas they could have just sent my card a few hundred miles up the West Coast as intended, they instead send it a full three thousand miles back to the East Coast in order to avenge the “under-valued postage”.
I don’t think they actually saved themselves any money.
